After a very shaky start, we are finally well on the way to developing our second Forest School site! Last year we were awarded a grant from Bron Afon Housing Association to fund an outdoor shelter and other materials needed to create an area for outdoor learning.
Our children all have sessions outside, but our current area can be overused, and our small shelter doesn’t keep everyone dry so this was an ideal opportunity to enable us to get out more often, with shelter. However, we hit a major snag! The lockdowns and school closures due to Covid 19 put our plans on hold and it was going to cost a lot more than first thought.
Many phone calls and emails later we finally found some wonderful companies who were willing to help. Melin Homes have worked hard to find us materials, which were very kindly donated by Robert Price Builders merchants.
Steve Dash from TopLawn Grounds Maintenance and our own Mr Turner have done a fantastic job building the shelter.
We have also been given a very generous donation from The Hopkins and Hill Charitable Trust, that has enabled us to purchase trees and pollinators. These will enhance the area and help us protect and encourage endangered species to the area.
The children have already explored the area and helped to tidy and clean, getting it ready to be used.
We couldn’t have created this wonderful outdoor area without help from all of you wonderful people and companies.
We want to say a great BIG THANK YOU for your help and support and we will keep you updated on the progress!
