CURRICULUM INFORMATION
The following information about Year 5 may be helpful. Upcoming or daily events are communicated via Class Charts (our school messaging platform), newsletters, and our school website. Our Twitter page @bhvcprimary shows how much work we have done in Year 5 each week!
Autumn Term
This term our topic is ‘All things bright and beautiful’. Our enquiry question is ‘What do living things need to survive?’ We will be using our research and enquiry skills to explore animals and plants, then consider how they adapt to their environments.
In Literacy we will read, perform and discuss ghost poetry, some of which are entertaining, but The Listeners poem might give you the creeps! We will also use our formal writing skills to create non chronological reports and diary entries.
In Numeracy we will continue to develop our number skills using the four operations, learn to identify features of shapes and develop our measuring and graph skills.
In Science and Technology we will investigate temperature changes and learn how animals keep themselves warm. We will also have the opportunity to explore and design an ark, just like Noah did in the bible story.
Thursday is our PE day so don’t forget to wear your kit and come ready to get physical! We will also make our weekly trip to Pontypool Active Living Centre each Friday for swimming lessons.
