Coity Plaza 1

Year 3

Croeso i'r Coity Plaza 1

All of the year 3 staff are so proud with how positive and ambitious the children have been during our home learning period throughout the Spring Term. You should be so proud of yourselves Year 3!

This term, our topic is called:
Seven Continents One World

Within this topic, the children seemed most interested in some of the countries in Europe and began asking questions such as:
What continent do we live in?
How many countries are in Europe?
Does everyone eat the same food as us?
How many people live in Europe?
What is the difference between the cultures in each country in the continent that we live in?
Based around these questions, we started learning about some of the different countries in Europe – in particular: Spain, France, Germany, Italy and Sweden.

Year 3 children began researching these different countries and finding out lots of interesting facts. They produced fact files based on some of the information that they had found out about their countries, including information about some very popular tourist destinations (we are now all dreaming about visiting DisneyLand Paris!).

We got creative and designed our own versions of the country’s flag using some of the materials that we already had at home – we had lego, magazine collages and even fruit!

Year 3 even spent some time learning how to say hello and goodbye, count to 5 and to say thank you in the language of one of these 5 countries!

After finding out lots of interesting information about these 5 countries in Europe, Year 3 designed and created some very persuasive leaflets and posters. Their aim was to try and persuade members of the public to visit the country they had been researching and now Miss Cunningham has got these 5 countries at the top of her bucket list!

Year 3 got so creative with this topic and even ended up creating their own persuasive adverts to go with the leaflets and posters that they had made. We had lots of fun with this one!

Now that we are back together, we have spent some time during our first we back discussing our favourite and most interesting facts that we found out about each country. We have combined this together with our maths knowledge of bar charts and tally charts and have been gathering data within class about the country we would most like to visit next.

Europe is a beautiful continent that is full of so many amazing cultures that we usually forget about. It has been lovely to explore our own continent and learn about so many countries that are so close to home.

Some views from the children:

Maddie: In this topic I loved creating our leaflets. I loved planning it and finding out such interesting information about Sweden. I also loved learning a bit of the Swedish language, it was so much fun!! I can still remember some of it.

Before learning about this topic, I never really ever thought about Sweden and I would never be bothered by visiting the country but I loved learning about Sweden and I really want to visit there as soon as we can travel again!

Ellie: My favourite part of learning about Sweden this term was creating my own advert to persuade people to travel there. I was a bit nervous but I still really enjoyed it. Now that I know all about Sweden, I really want to visit!
