Additional Learning Needs (ALN)
The approach to supporting children and young people who have difficulties with learning is changing.
The Welsh Government has passed new legislation, called the Additional Learning Needs (Wales) Act (the Act), which is supported by the Additional Learning Needs Code (Code). The Act and Code will replace the current legislation and guidance about special educational needs.
The Welsh Government is bringing in a more flexible and responsive system of meeting the needs of children and young people with special educational needs or disabilities and are striving to deliver a fully inclusive education system for the learners of Wales.
This video will give you more information regarding these changes.
Reporting an absence
All absences need to be reported directly to the school office on 01495 766 500 as soon as possible. In the event that there is no answer, please leave a voice message, clearly stating you child’s full name, their class and a reason for their absence.
Illness and appointments
While we appreciate that pupils may occasionally be absent from school for a genuine reason- for example through ill health or medical/dental appointments, we do request that you ensure, when possible, that such visits are scheduled either at the end of the school day or during a school holiday period.
Regular attendance is essential to your child making solid progress at school, and with your ongoing support we strive to ensure that every child is able to achieve their potential here at Blaenavon Heritage VC Primary School.
Absence outside of term time
Holidays should, whenever possible, be taken outside of school time. However, we appreciate that occasionally circumstances can dictate otherwise.
Parents who wish to take their children out of school during term time must complete a Holiday Request Form and hand it in at the school office. We have copies available from the office, or alternatively you can download and print a copy to then hand in.
