Heddlu Bach

The Heddlu Bach (Mini Police) is a scheme from Gwent Police aimed at providing positive experiences at an early age, with regards to police and getting interaction between young people and the community.

They provide 20 sets of uniform per school and we select members by application and interview. The local CSO’s were involved with the interview process along with the Gwent Police School Liason Officer (PC Murphy).

Our Heddlu Bach Team

Our Heddlu Bach have been involved with the unveiling of the memorial benches in Abersychan, guard of honour at the local rugby club, raising awareness of anti social behaviour at Halloween and bonfire night and also run regularly parking patrols to help keep our children safe at drop off and pick up times.

They have to interact with lots of different people in the community, which is improving their confidence as well as communication skills.

The Heddlu Bach scheme is a program delivered jointly with Gwent.  It is a fun and interactive volunteering opportunity for school children aged 9-11 years old.  The Heddlu Bach supports the force priorities, through participation in both educational and community environments. The children involved will develop confidence through many enjoyable experiences.

The children and school who become part of the program help to tackle local issues, highlighted by the children, in their own community. This is achieved by assisting the local Neighbourhood Policing Teams, in crime prevention initiatives and taking ownership of the tasks.  The Heddlu Bach in Gwent has been developed to sit within the All Wales Schools Beat programme, with the children having educational lessons on topics such as cybercrime, stranger danger and bullying.

With the hope, we create ethically informed citizens of Wales, through creativeness and learning. It will build resilience in young people, and it’s enhanced to develop a successful and exciting future for young people through collaboration with communities and the Police.
Heddlu Bach aims to work with all young people to promote and deliver on:

Inspiring trust & confidence within communities.

Helping to protect communities & the vulnerable.

Communicate to reassure Communities.

Working in collaboration with communities & external partners.

Target young people with early intervention.

Educate young people on work that the police & partners agencies do.

Your Neighbourhood Policing Teams are your key connection between your school and the Police. They will be working with you on local community projects, and aiding you in rewarding the young people.  Building and developing strong relationships with your Neighbourhood Policing Team is vital in becoming a successful Heddlu Bach.
