Today, children from years 4, 5 and 6 travelled to Cwmbran Stadium to take part in the Torfaen Sports Development ‘all girls’ five-a-side football festival.
Supported by County in the Community, Torfaen Leisure Trust and local football clubs, the tournaments are held to further raise the profile of girls football in Torfaen and create more opportunities for girls to join local clubs.
A total of 25 teams from 13 primary schools entered the festival, and BHVC and Padre Pio both met in the year 5/6 final, competing for a place at the Premier League Stars under 11s girls tournament for South West clubs.
In a closely fought contest, Padre Pio were the overall winners, securing a 3-2 victory on penalties, and will go on to represent County in the Community at the tournament at Cardiff City FC.
Local football clubs including Coed Eva, Llanyravon, Fairfield United, Tranch and Torfaen Coaching Academy were all in attendance to offer support at the event.
