Today Year 6 pupils visited the cenotaph in Blaenavon. As part of the visit there was an unveiling of a commemorative plaque to remember soldiers from Blaenavon who died during the Boer War.

This was also a ceremony to open the new Garden of Remembrance at the Workmen’s Hall. Reverend Noy spoke and introduced Andrew Smith who read In Flanders Field. During the poem we laid poppy crosses to remember those who died during the first and second world wars. This was followed by a 2 minute silence.

Finally we sang the hymn Abide With Me followed by prayers from the members of the congregation.  After the service we had some group photographs taken with the Standard Bearers and around the memorial benches.
